Christmas is around the corner and the festivities will be happening before we know it! Fancy decorating your fireplace with modern luxurious quilted stockings or sending them as the ultimate special gift? I have you covered with the Quilted Star Stocking!

Star blocks are the perfect detail for any Christmas sewing project. In this pattern I take you step by step on how to construct three different star blocks; an Ohio Star, Sawtooth Star and Hunter’s Star which will all sit neatly on the front of the stocking.

***check out my blog on my Top Ten on-line fabric stores in the UK to help you find the best fabric to make your stars***

Each of these star blocks use a slightly different patchwork technique. You make quarter-square triangles in the Ohio Star, Flying Geese in the Sawtooth star and half-square triangles in the Hunter’s star, making this pattern perfect for beginners who want to try a few techniques without committing to an entire quilt.

Once you have your star block made, the next steps are to attach it to the remaining front pieces of the stocking and quilt it!

There are endless ways you can quilt your stocking and if you have never stepped outside a straight-line, then this is your chance to be brave and try something new! Even hand quilting, which I absolutely love to do when I have the time, it is so therapeutic and relaxing.

I quilted these three stockings slightly differently. The first picture shows the Ohio Star block quilted with crossing parallel lines which compliment the star and makes the stocking look even more modern and unique.

The Sawtooth Star in the second picture was simply quilted outside, in the middle, and just inside the outline of the star. A simple style but a very effective way to make the star pop out and gives a little texture.

The final photo of the Hunter’s Star shows the entire stocking quilted with parallel lines diagonally, which makes this stocking really stand out and gives all the ‘wow’ feels. This can be carried on around the back of the stocking and the same technique can be applied to the backing.

This last technique would also work really well on a plain stocking without the star block! Simply use the same stocking template to cut out the front of the stocking from a whole piece of fabric!

Once the front is quilted you are ready to construct and make the stocking.

The final touches are the Pom Poms! Who doesn’t love a stocking with a big fluffy Pom Pom? The Quilted Star Stocking pattern sets out step by step how to make them. The key elements I use are the Clover Pom Pom Maker and Merino Wool! I find the two things hand in hand produce the most luxurious fluffy Pom Poms you ever did see!

Hang the Pom Poms at your desired length from the loop of the stocking and voilà - the perfect, most beautiful modern Christmas Stocking!

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog, I hope you enjoyed it.
